New Birth

Aside from the allergies, I love this time of year.  I love that daylight is longer and that I drive to work when the sun is coming up.  I like sunrises almost better than sunsets.  Probably because they are just as beautiful but have the added bonus of being a beginning to something.  I love this time of year because everything is new and has a fresh smell to it.  My only wish is that I could take in that whiff and not sneeze up a storm!  Usually, I do it anyway and deal with the sneezing because it's so worth it to take in that glorious new floral, grass cutting, tree blooming smell in the air!

My favorite flower blooms this time of year.  The tulip!  I love tulips.  They are so pretty and, for the first time in my life, I made it to the Skagit County Tulip Festival.  Yep.  I've lived in this area just about all my life (with the exception of my overseas living) and I have never been to this festival - which is kind of sad because it's in my backyard!  But isn't that how it usually goes?  If you actually live in the place these large events are, most of the people there are the tourists and not so much the locals?  Well, I'm glad I went and now I will have to go every year.  To see my favorite flower in such abundance and in beautiful rows.... ahhhh... twas good!

Did you know that the tulip symbolizes new birth, elegance and grace?  How perfect for my favorite flower to mean those things!  My childhood was not an easy one.  Being assaulted as a child and then having to grow up figuring out how to handle that was rough.  Bad choices when it came to friends, parties and such.  There is a lot that I wish I could change and, for interesting reasons, I wouldn't want to change.  It's because of all those experiences that have made me who I am today.  And I, like the tulip, have new birth! And... I'd like to think some elegance.  Now grace?  Maybe not when it comes to actually walking (giggle) but I think I have grace.  I'm polite (most of the time) and I'm elegant (in a feisty way).  *wink*
