Who needs to go to Niagara Falls?

When you have your own waterfall?

That photo is of the parking lot of the school I work at.  The day began like any other day.  I arrived at 6:30 a.m.  Clocked in and was settling into seeing what the day would bring.  One of the opening staff came to tell me about a broken table when all of the sudden...

Our chef came flying through the door and yelled at us to move our cars because a water main burst and the parking lot was flooding fast.  She wasn't kidding either!  We ran out to cars and were able to splash through the water in our shoes and such.  Didn't get too wet.  I have to admit it was kind of fun to drive the Subaru through it all.

By the time we came back, the parking lot was completely covered in water.  We still had our two vans to move.  So Chef L and I took off the socks and shoes, rolled up our jeans and out we went!  It was FREEZING cold.  Got the vans moved just in time and ran back into the building.  The feet were NUMB.  And COLD.  I lost a sock thanks to the wind.  It's my small sacrifice I guess.

"The rains came down and the floods came up!"  (If you grew up going to church and Sunday School you might recognize that lyric.)  It was raining to add to the whole mess but it wasn't really adding to the flood, thank goodness.  My staff is awesome.  All of them arrived at their normal times and jumped right in moving furniture.  Laying down towels.  Finding new uses for our rest time mats.  Not really the way we want to spend our morning but they pretty much rocked it out.

The city is paying for everything.  Damaged furniture, supplies, clean up.  They rock.  It's so interesting when things like this happen how people react.  We get a glimpse even more into each others personalities.  Some were very stressed but plowed through anyway.  We had encouragers and team players.  It was wonderful.  Sometimes it's hard to deal with these situations because we need someone to blame but in reality... these things just happen and you deal with it the best you can.

At least we get some fabulously shampooed carpets!  Now our school will be even cleaner. :)  Can I include my sock on the list of things damaged or lost please?  (KIDDING!)

So we are closed the rest of today and tomorrow.  Possibly on Friday.  It's a bummer.  But what do you do?  I know what I'm doing!  Cleaning my room, sleeping in and scrapbooking! :)

Oh goodness. I live in Nashville and we had a little flooding problem back in May. I was really lucky but know what it's like to see the water rising. Scary! don't you love a few bonus scrapbooking days? I wouldn't be too sad either. :)
