Bliss!

I love the 15th of the month lately because it means a new round of DT layouts are up in the SFTIO gallery.  This month we are focusing on Inspiration.  Does the song Chicago come to anyone elses mind?  "You're the meaning in my life... you're the inspiration..."  Do you have the song stuck in your head now?  You're welcome. :)

This kit is full of all kinds if Inspiration.  I love the playfulness and positive spin on it.  How can it not be positive?  Inspiration is a positive outlook on life.  Usually when we are inspired, we feel joy, happiness, satisfaction, etc.  When I did my typical research on the word (which includes rummaging through thesaurus.com among other places) I came across the word BLISS.  I love that word.  Always have. Here is the definition:

Bliss
- noun
1. supreme happiness; utter joy or contentment: wedded bliss.
2. Theology . the joy of heaven.
3. heaven; paradise: the road to eternal bliss.
4. Archaic . a cause of great joy or happiness.

I love how a word can inspire me!  I have some photos from a wonderful day I had with one of my best friends.  It was a day of spontaneous fun.  We went out to lunch and then into Fairhaven.  I love this part of my town.  Historic with all kinds of cute shops down alley ways.  I saw a light post and immediately wanted to swing and hang on it. Thus began some fun photos.

Supplies: Paper, Brad: Crate Paper, Cardstock, Alphabet Stickers, Canvas Stars: Jillibean Soup, Journal spot: American Crafts, Flowers, ribbon: Creative Imaginations, Pearls: Prima Marketing, Bling: Basic Grey, Prima Marketing, Embroidery Floss: DMC, Tools: Border Punch: EK Success

I totally needed a day like that to just let go!  So fun to be goofy and carefree with a good friend.  And a camera!

Some design notes....

I really like playing with bling and pearls.  I like to find new ways to use them.  Maybe not new to you but new to me.  For so long I always used pearls and bling as centerpieces or in a row as an accent.  I really like the look of clusters and how you can use them to keep the eye moving on a project.  And ever since my sewing machine went to heaven, I've been hand stitching with embroidery floss.  It takes forever.  Sometimes I regret starting it when I'm half way through.  But it's so worth it when I'm finished.

Another technique I've enjoyed using more is layering embellishments.  Sometimes it's a game to see how high I can get them!  Then I have to be careful because I remember they will still need to fit in the protective sheet for my binder!  Eeek!  In the meantime, I have fun experimenting.  These canvas stars were way too easy to do this.  Love it as just one embellishment.

Journaling is such an important component to any layout.  Whether it's about an event, your children, vacation and even about YOU... journaling brings it all together.  While design is uber important to me, if I had to choose between layering my layout with a ton of product or focusing on the journaling... I'd pick the journaling.

Thanks for swinging by my little home!  Can you believe it's already the middle of March???
hugs,
Melissa
