Happy Little Life

I hear this a lot - It takes a special someone to be around a room full of young children five days a week.

My reply usually involves something similar but replaced with being a doctor or lawyer or forklift driver. Those things I have no desire to ever do but I have the utmost admiration for those who have those careers with ease.

To me, being a teacher is in my blood. I come from a family of educators and I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was a little girl. Sure, I went through phases of wanting to do other careers but when it finally came time to commit, I chose teacher. Older kids scared me. I had no idea I could learn to teach adults. But I loved the little kids. I loved the hugs. I loved the respect, for the most part, they had for adults. I loved their curiosity and joy. It was a natural choice, for me, to become a preschool teacher.

Over the years I have overcome the fear of older kids by being a music and art teacher. I actually adore middle school kids. Perhaps because they are bigger versions of a four year old. ;) Who knows.

I created this layout using the beautiful January kit, HARMONY, from Scrapbooking from the Inside Out. I wanted to reflect on one of the many characteristics that I love about young children. One of those characteristics is how they view the world with wonder and awe. Everything is exciting for them. Everything is harmonious. Especially when they pound on the toy pianos. *wink*

I chose a lot of the playful elements of this kit since I was creating something that involves kids. I chose the light and delicate flower - it reminded me of innocence. And the sticker with the phrase "Happy Little Life" was too perfect.

And what is a child focused layout without a playful banner. The composition of this layout was definitely unique for me. I like linear and horizontal. But I was inspired by the placement of the patterns by one of the 12x12 sheets in the kit.

Dear Lizzy 5th and Frolic "5th & Oak"

I cut those two patterns and placed them in the same position on kraft paper. It's a super simple layout with some texture, thanks to the paint splatters and emebellishments.

I know I'm one of the few that finds it soothing being around children and that is okay. It is a gift God has given me and I take it seriously. I love being around kids and watching them learn. Sometimes I am envious of how naive they are to the world but at least I can escape for a few hours a day with them.
